1 Mountain Spring Road, Farmington, CT 06032Elijah Lewis (b. 1810) was a prominent local citizen and abolitionist of Farmington. The late-18th century home he lived in has been identified as an Underground Railroad station. Lewis sheltered fugitive slaves in a space at the base of his chimney. There, a large stone can still be removed to reveal a hiding place big enough to hold a grown man. This property is privately owned and not open to the public.
