David Ruggles Freedom Courtyard

Saturday December 5, 2015 marked the celebration of the newest site added to the Connecticut Freedom Trail, the David Ruggles Freedom Courtyard in Norwich, CT. David Ruggles, born a free man in 1810 in Norwich, helped six hundred escape from slavery. Among those he helped was Frederick Douglas, the leading black abolitionist in America.
