Dedication Ceremony | Charles Mason Homestead

Date: Friday, November 14
Time: 9:00 – 9:45 AM
Location: The Country School, 341 Opening Hill Road, Madison, CT

Join us in honoring the legacy of Charles Mason, a private in the Connecticut 29th “Colored” Regiment during the Civil War. Mason enlisted in January 1864, served until the regiment was mustered out in October 1865, and upon his return purchased this property on Opening Hill Road, where he and his family lived from 1865 to 1872.

At this dedication ceremony, Country School students will share their research on Mr. Mason’s life and service, and state officials will reflect on the importance of honoring our veterans—especially the contributions of African American soldiers like Charles Mason who fought for freedom and equality.

This event is free and open to the public. All are welcome to join us for this important moment of remembrance and recognition.
