The Connecticut Freedom Trail wanted to make you all aware of an exciting opportunity. The National Trust for Historic Preservation’s African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund will be opening the application for its Preserving Black Churches grant on August 5, 2026. Applications are due September 11, 2026, by 5pm. Eligible activities include:

CFT hosted a lunchtime webinar on Wednesday, August 12, from 12pm to 1pm. We went over eligibility, the application itself, frequently asked questions, and heard from a successful applicant from last year, our very own Dixwell Congregational Church. For those of you who missed the webinar, it’s recording can be found here:
Connecticut is fortunate enough to have two successful applicants to the AACHAF for two separate grant programs: Dixwell Congregational Church(Preserving Black Churches), and The Mary and Eliza Freeman Houses(Action Fund National Grant Program). We will be hosting another webinar in the fall specifically dedicated to the Action Fund, which is open to historic places such as sites, museums, and landscapes that represent African American cultural heritage.
